PR&R
Problem Report and
Resolution refers to a written corrective action format that describes
the Problem and then describes the final Resolution.
Unlike the Ford Motor Company 8D (Eight Disciplined Steps) that always
stays the same; the PR&R is usually formatted in the requestors
(customers) desired format. In other words, the format will include all
of the desired information about the completed corrective action, in a
format dictated by the requestor. Some organizations use the 8D format
for their PR&R, which is perfectly acceptable, others create their own
format.
The completed PR&R is
seldom submitted on a single sheet of paper. Generally, the requestor
will require additional evidence to support the corrective action
decision. Pareto charts, Cause & Effect diagrams, and SPC charts may be
requested to support the completed PR&R.

in the 1980’s, the 8D is now pretty much universal. A recent form of the
8D is the known as the Global 8D. The Global 8D is a computer
driven 8D format that has the user capture a significant amount of
ancillary information about the problem. This information is compiled in
a database and provides the user with information about unseen patterns
that may indicate additional systems failures.
